In his right hand he holds the Vajra (the mace of Indra). Around his shoulders is draped the sacred thread of Hinduism, the janayoo. In his left hand he carries one of the Himalayas. When dispatched there to bring healing herbs back to the injured Lakshman (brother of Rama, wounded by a magical arrow) he couldn't locate them (because they were hiding) and so simply brought back the entire mountain.
