Koh Ker (Preah Vihear Province) - Northwestern Cambodia
Deep in the jungle this is one of the least studied temple areas from the Angkorian period. The area is infested with mosquitos (and malaria) and landmines (several locals have been killed and maimed in recent years) and is extremely difficult (one of the most remote and inaccessible temple sites in the whole country) and somewhat dangerous to get to. So I had to do it!!!!
Koh Ker served as the capital of Jayavarman IV (reigned 928-942) who took power from a rival and left Angkor and moved the capital here. His son and sucessor Harshavarman I moved the capital back to Angkor in 944
