The epiphytic tillandsia plants do not need soil to grow.
This one has attached to the back of an old garden bench
and is starting to bloom. This is one of the varieties of
tillandsias that go through a leaf-color change during bloom -
the usually nondescript green fleshy leaves will remain scarlet red
while it flowers. That is a lawae fern in the background.
