Nesting

An adult red-foot tortoise (Geochelone carbonaria)
digging a nest in the garden. She did not do a very
good job of it - the hole was not deep enough so the eggs
did not drop down as they should have. She laid a total
of 4 eggs but since the hole was not right she could not
cover them properly. I removed the eggs - dug the hole
deeper, replaced the eggs and covered them with soil.
With any luck there will be baby tortoise hatchlings
in about 4 months.

Pam, this is wonderful to be able to see this happening, with a helping hand from the midwife.

That is so neat Pam. Do you have to be real careful about touching the eggs or handling them? Human scent? Or are they on their own once laid? Linda S
