Lantern Floating - Hawaii 2008

Every Memorial Day, at Ala Moana Park, on the island of O'ahu, a lantern floating ceremony is held in honor of those who have died. Each paper lantern holds a candle and the names of loved ones written on pieces of paper. Some families arrange for their lantern to be placed from canoes by volunteers, others prefer to write personal messages on the paper lantern and place it in the water. On May 26, 2008, 1600 lanterns were floated in the waters of Ala Moana.
