Focus compliments of AF Live. This is a MAJOR find (for me). As a reminder to me later..
I set the camera and 100/400 lens on the tripod. I attached the remote shutter release and turned
on Live View. I had read about AF in LV the day before and chose AF Live. It leaves the camera in
LV and analyzes the incoming image, working to achieve max contrast.
First, select AFLive focus mode (see manual). Second, using the multi-controller, move the focus
rectangle over the moon: focus on it, the high contrast object in the image. Third, maybe go for 5x
or 10x multiplication before going for focus. Fourth, press and hold AF ON. [Mind you, on my tripod,
w my deft touch, the camera and 400mm lens jiggle when I touch them. To activate auto focus press
& hold the AF ON button. Watch the feedback loop as the camera works to focus.] Miraculously the
camera got focus lock despite the jiggles. Press the shutter release button and you're golden.
[I had to crank up LR 2.3's "luminance" setting to get rid of all the noise introduced by
the "Movie Display" choise of ISO..]
