Leica Digilux Zoom - 2000

The Leica Digilux Zoom was released in March 2000.
It is a rebadged Fujifilm 1700 with a better body design and the red spot!
1.3 megapixel - 1280x1024 pixel image on a 1/2" sensor. 5:4 ratio.
Lens 38-114mm equivalent - F3.2 - F5. ISO - 125 only.
Smartmedia card, no USB (use a card reader). Battery Fujifilm NP-80.

This is a really nicely designed unit. I bought it from Seattle Goodwill on ebay because I wanted an example of the upright style of camera - there were a few.
It's great in the coat pocket although not too compact compared with many modern cameras.
There was an earlier 'Digilux' which has a fixed focal length lens and a later 'Digilux 4:3' which has a 2.4 megapixel count and three ISO settings.
Of the three, I think this one has the best design.
It is a challenge in all but good light - imagine being forced to use an auto camera with just 125 ISO.
There is a Manual setting on the dial but that only seems to give access to controls like white balance and flash - not speed and aperture.
I may be wrong though - haven't found a manual yet.
The Smartmedia card is a handicap too as they are getting hard to find. I was delighted when this one showed up
with a 128MB card - that was worth almost as much as I paid for the camera.

Addendum - I have to say that the more I use other old, crappy, plastic digital cameras,
the more I appreciate the quality of this little beast. It's far ahead of its competition for the time.
