June 6 Venus Transit

Up at 5:30 to shoot...solid cloud bank in the East.
Was unable to use my solar-filter, but the clouds were so
thick, in the end, I did not need one!
Taken through 85mm refractor, prime focus.
Venus (12106 km diameter) is just a bit smaller than Earth (12742 km).
So we see approx what the Earth looks like compared to the Sun...amazing..
8 years ago, was also cloudy!: http://www.pbase.com/adamstw/image/29914959

At noon, when clouds had passed:
(used solar filter here)

thanks Sam for your comments...I knew the sun was 100x the earth/venus, but never really measured the disk size here to check. Actually in my pict the shadow is 3x the size it should be! Even more amazing that the earth is even SMALLER than I imagined!

Now that is totally cool, being an "unfiltered" shot.
