Open Star Clusters M47 and NGC 2423. M47, which is situated about 1 degree west of M46, is a cluster which consists of about 30 bright stars. At magnitude 4.4 it can be easily seen with the unaided eye under dark skies. Its diameter is about 30 arcminutes, the size of the full moon. NGC 2423 is another less condensed star cluster located just north of M47, which contains about 40 stars. North is to the left in this image.
