Pete, I have checked levels, but there is nothing wrong in the photo.
At this time, you should try to set the black point ("brightness") of your monitor a bit higher ;-)
that's gotta be one TIRED Mama . . . nice in B&W . . but I need more detail in the shadows, Adal . . with my poor old eyes I can't count how many puppies cuz a couple of the dark ones run together for me =p
