After being in 2 hotels and a bus it was refreshing to board the ship MB Vapor on Friday, April 10 in Trogir which is one of the wonderful ports we got to see. The entire voyage on the beautiful Croatian Dalmatian Coast was exhilarating. The voyage ended on Friday, April 17 but then we got to go to beautiful places in Montenegro before we flew home. After we met the Vapor crew we were assigned our cabins. My first reaction when I got to our cabin was: "This is idyllic." I never changed my mind. It was a joy to travel with our excellent trip leader Alan, our 17 Road Scholar shipmates and the wonderful crew of 6. The meals on board were always excellent and so were the lectures and the entertainment provided.

The lecture on the morning of April 11 was very interesting. The guest lecturer from the University of Split described 25 centuries of civilization on the Dalmatian Coast. Venice ruled much of the Dalmatian Coast for several centuries. Many photos will show the Venetian influence. After the lecture we toured Tragir with a local guide. Then we took the bus for an amazing drive along the Dalmatian Coast. The views along this coast topped the views of any coastal drive I have ever been on and I have been on a few. Croatia is truly a fascinating and beautiful country.

We got to Šibenik. According to the detailed Road Scholar inerary this town is "Recognized by its beautiful landscape, dramatic history, and cultural monuments, Šibenik has the distinction of being the oldest native Croatian city on the Adriatic. The old town is full of noteworthy churches, noble palaces, and stone houses typical of Dalmatia. The Cathedral of Saint Jakov is a UNESCO World Heritage Site." A local guide led us on a walk here.

Then it was on to a hilltop village, Jurlinovi Dvori, for dinner at a home hosted by a delightful priest whose family owned the homestead for generations. Our return trip to our ship in Trogir included a stop at a scenic view of the coast soon after sunset.
