I'm imagining the image without the inner frame. It's still a very strong image; the dramatic sky, the long midground between the grasses at the bushes and then the hills beyond, and of course the starkness of the tree branches in the top left, but there IS something about the inner frame that takes it beyond that. Maybe it's just because it's the sort of thing that you don't normally see but I think it goes beyond that. It's something that works better in this picture than I think it would in many, even if I can't quite put my finger on why at the moment.
