Hi Ann; he's doing a "Bart". short for for 'Bartleman. Bartleman was a famous surfer of the 1970's. Austrailian, I think, but he did most of his surfing in Hawaii's E. side. The BIG waves. He invented the skill of using his hand to support himself while threading the tunnel on the big waves. This was picked up and copied by the skateborders/surfers of Venice, California in the '70's. The 'Z' boys (as they were know) transferred this style to skateboarding. They all bacome famous. If you can find a DVD of 'Dog Town and the Z Boys', do get it. It;s the best ever. It's all about the history of skatboarding (inclucing the manavous you've photographed. Take care; Lee (v)

Nicely carved turn captured well. Long boarding has more of a surfing laid back style with longer sweeping turns.
