On April 23rd, Webster firefighters responded to a fire in a three-story woodframe multifamily dwelling located at 27 Mechanic Street, in the downtown section of Webster. As first due firefighters arrived on scene, they knew they would be in for a long night as fire had control of the entire rear third of the building. Mutual aid was immediately summonsed to the scene from the Dudley, Southbridge, and Oxford fire departments. At the height of the fire, two other structures were threatened by the flames, another multifamily dwelling on the B side and a garage on the C side. The fire took several hours to bring under control. |
