On Saturday evening June 24th, Webster firefighters were alerted to a reported building fire at 21 Loveland Road on the shores of Webster Lake. Most of the Webster Department was detailed to standby at Memorial Beach for a fireworks display that was supposed to be presented to the public at dusk. The Dudley Fire Department was lending a hand and had been covering the Webster firehouse with one Engine and a crew, in the event of a fire response. The fireworks were at the culmination of a three day carnival held at the beach, and getting fire apparatus in and out was extremely difficult. When the reported house fire came in, Dudley Engine 2 responded to the scene immediately, followed by the members of the Webster FD not far behind. Upon arrival, first due firefighters found fire showing from the front of the building at the entry door. A handline was stretched and placed into operation very quickly, hitting the visible fire and advancing the line inside to the seat of the fire. During this advance, Dudley Lt. George Patrinos lost his balance and tumbled down a flight of stairs, tearing his mask from his face. He was uninjured, but was assisted from the building by his crew. The fire was quickly brought under control as a second line was stretched to the rear of the structure. No other injuries were reported. Fire officials believe the cause of the fire is accidental. |
