At about 4 AM on May 31st, Webster firefighters were turned out to a reported fire at 4 Goddard Street. Five adults got out of the building before first responders arrived. The owner of the building had to jump from a second story window to escape the fast moving flames. He suffered a serious hip injury and had to be transported to the hospital. First due Webster firefighters arrived to find the apartment house at the location almost totally involved. They also had two exposures, one on either side of the burning dwelling, that were severely threatened. Lines were placed to protect those exposures. Mutual aid was called in from the communities of Dudley, Oxford, Douglas, and Southbridge. |
