In the early evening hours of March 4th, Webster firefighters responded to a call for smoke coming from the dwelling located at 11 Malden Avenue. The caller also reported that two individuals had just come running out of the house while they were on the phone. Webster Fire Chief Brian Hickey, who lives nearby the home, arrived on scene very quickly and reported to dispatch that he observed "heavy smoke and fire" coming from a large two-story split level ranch dwelling. The lower floor of the home was heavily involved as firefighters arrived and attempted an aggressive interior attack. The fire was quickly extending to the upper floor while the attack was initiated. Mutual aid was brought in to assist Webster firefighters from the Dudley, Oxford, and Douglas fire departments. Two occupants were injured, and were transported by Webster EMS to a local hospital. Their conditions were unknown. The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Webster Fire and Police Departments, as well as representatives from the State Fire Marshals Office. |
