Shortly after midnight on Sunday May 15th, all five Thompson fire companies responded to a barn fire located at 1066 Quaddick Town Farm Road, near the Thompson/East Putnam town line. The barn, which was two-story and hand built by the owner, housed several vehicles including two Harley Davidson motorcycles and a variety of yard equipment, and a workshop. The barn was fully involved upon the arrival of the first due Thompson Hill Fire Company, and water supply was going to be a major consideration. Mutual aid was summonsed immediately to establish an uninterrupted water supply via a tanker shuttle operation. Several fire departments from Connecticut and Massachusetts and Rhode Island assisted Thompson firefighters at the scene. The barn was a total loss, but firefighters were able to protect a nearby dwelling from the fast moving flames. |
