At approximately 4 AM on March 12th, Southbridge firefighters responded to a reported fire in a three-decker on Cliff Street. Two firefighters and one officer responded on one engine and arrived to find fires on all floors of an occupied three-story woodframe dwelling. Only the first floor was occupied, and the family was out of the building prior to the fire department's arrival. The fire severely threatened two other occupied woodframe dwellings on either side of the fire building. A third alarm was struck on arrival, and mutual aid was summonsed to the fire from the Sturbridge and Charlton Fire Departments. It took close to two hours to bring the fire under control. One firefighter was slightly injured during supression operations.
