At approximately 12:30 AM on May 31st, Oxford firefighters responded to the report of a fire in a tractor-trailer unit on Interstate 395 southbound, between exits 5 and 4. While first due jakes were enroute, they received a report from the PD that the 53-foot box trailer of the unit was fully involved; the good news was that the driver disconnected the tractor in time and was able to move it away from the burning trailer. The fire closed I-395 for about an hour. Oxford jakes stayed on the scene until about 10 AM on May 31st, tearing apart the huge load and wetting down the destroyed groceries. The fire apparently started as a fire in the rear brakes. |
