At approximately 3:35 PM on May 16th, Dudley firefighters responded to a reported barn fire. As soon as the first engine left quarters, dispatch advised them they were receiving multiple calls for a barn fire at 110 Ramshorn Road. Upon arrival they found a large (80 x 100) dairy barn fully involved, and four other outbuildings (including another barn) starting to ignite from radiant heat. Eventually, the wind driven fire leveled the dairy barn and one of the outbuildings, and damaged three others. Wind and water supply hampered firefighter's efforts. No livestock was lost in the incident; 80 cows were scheduled to be received within the next couple of weeks. There were no injuries, and mutual aid responded from the Webster, Southbridge, Oxford, and Charlton fire departments as well as the Quinebaug Volunteer FD and the Community Fire Company, both from Connecticut. |
