Shortly after 10 AM on April 12th, Douglas firefighters responded to a reported building fire in the area of 75 North Street. Anxious calls to Douglas Fire Dispatch reported the fire to be in a dwelling first, then additional calls came in stating the fire was in a barn. As firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire showing from a large two story barn that was in close proximity to a two story dwelling out in front. Approximately 12' separated the two structures. To add to the department's dilema, a hydrant that was taken by the first due engine blew the water line as the hydrant was charged. Douglas jakes had to rely on tankers to provide adequate fireflow to the fireground. Mutual aid was called in from several neighboring towns. Firefighters did an outstanding job of keeping the fire out of the dwelling, considering the fire conditions on arrival. |
