Fed States of Micronesia

Yap State. Known as being the most traditional corner of Micronesia. While $US are the accepted currency these days, traditional stone money still plays an important role in society, and can be seen by pathways and outside public buildings in every village. Some women - mainly older ones - still go about their business bare-chested, wearing nothiong more than a 'lava lava' (quite a confronting sight in Colonia's supermarket (I think there was only one) and many men still wear the traditional 'thu' (loincloth).

A few shots from point-and-shoot camera I took on a dive trip in 2003.
