A pesca da tainha no litoral catarinense é muito mais do que uma atividade econômica. Embora esse aspecto não possa ser desprezado, essa pesca faz parte das tradições locais e representa um período de confraternização e festa para os pescadores e moradores locais. O período da pesca se estende de maio a julho, momento em que o peixe migra a partir do sul à procura de águas mais mornas. Os pescadores locais ficam ansiosos esperando a abertura da pesca. E, quem aprecia esse peixe, também fica à espera do momento de saboreá-lo. A tainha é um peixe com muita gordura que, quando bem feito, é delicioso. No que diz respeito à fotografia, eu, Norton e Leão saímos bem cedo e fomos para a praia do Costão do Santinho. Chegamos no extremo sul da praia, mas lá, não havia tainha. Em companhia de Marcelo (pescador amigo do Norton) caminhamos até o norte da praia e lá havia uma ‘puxada’ de rede, onde pescadores, passantes e moradores locais traziam as duas extremidades da rede, lançada por um barco. O proprietário do barco e da rede, tradicionalmente, fica com 50% da produção (foi estimada a pesca de 4000 tainhas, cada uma pesando em torno de 1,5 kilos). O resto é dividido entre os pescadores e pessoas que ajudaram a puxar a rede. Na segunda parte da galeria, há fotos da chegada de dois barcos na Barra da Lagoa, outro local tradicional na pesca da tainha. Neste caso, o peixe é pescado em alto-mar e trazido por barcos. Para todas as fotos eu usei um equipamento simples mas eficaz: uma veterana Canon Rebel T3i e a lente 18-135mm.

In our littoral (Santa Catarina state), the tainha (mullet) fishing is much more than an economic activity. This aspect cannot be neglected but such a fishing is part of local traditions and it is also a moment of confraternization and popular feast. The fishing period starts in May and finishes in July, when the tainha migrates from the South to the North in search of warm water. The local fishers are anxious when waiting for such a moment. And who likes this fish, anxious for the dish. Tainha is a fat fish and must be properly cooked; done in such a way, it is delicious. As for our photography, Norton, Leão and I, we wake up quite early and drove to the Costão do Santinho beach. We arrive at the South part of the beach, but there was no fish. Then, with Marcelo (a Norton’s friend and fisher) we walked to the North beach area, where a net was being pulled by fishers and local passers-by. The two extremities of the net, launched previously by a boat, were being brought to the beach. The owner of the boat and net traditionally has 50% of the production (here, about 4000 tainhas; each fish weights around 1.5 kilo). The other 50% is distributed among the fishers and people who helped with the net. The second part of the photo gallery is related to the fishing at Barra da Lagoa, another place in the island strongly connected to fishing activities. In this case, the tainha is caught in the ocean by boats. For the pictures I used a simple (but efficient) gear: an old Canon Rebel T3i and the 18-155mm lens.
