Dordogne area: Rocamadour and Beynac, medieval Cities (2023)

We traveled from Paris to Bordeaux to visit the Dordogne (Périgueux) area. We stayed two nights in Sarlat, in the heart of Dordogne. In the morning, we started by driving to Beynac (not far from Sarlat) and in the afternoon we drove to Rocamadour (at the Lot department, neighbor of Dordogne). These two small towns are amazing. Beynac has a beautiful castle on the top of the mountain, as usual for medieval cities. Beynac is located by the Dordogne river valley. This castle has often been used in movie scenes. Rocamadour is another medieval town; it was built by a mountain - again for protection - and was (or still is) a peregrinaje way for christians. Rocamadour, according to some readings, means "amateur of rocs" which seems to have a real meaning for the situation. Rocamadour is also a well appreciated and famous cheese. We will certainly keep good memories of this day.
