Rio de Janeiro; Copacabana, Ipanema (Feb. 2015)

I went to Rio de Janeiro for working at the university on a Friday. We stayed there two more days for visiting the town. Our hotel was located in Copacabana, South Zone of Rio. We also visited Ipanema (very close) and I took some pictures in that area. Rio is a beautiful town. Mother Nature was very generous with. The proximity between beaches, mountains and lacs allows a wonderful mixture. However, the contribution of man was - and still is - not so good. For instance, on the hills close to Copacabana, there are the favelas (slums), called Pavão, Pavãozinho and Cantagalo, physically connected. They could be seen from our hotel top floor (shown in pictures). All in all, Rio is worthy to be visited. The atmosphere is good, people are nice, there are many good restaurants and walking along the beaches is nice. But Rio has much more to be seen: visiting the Christ (Corcovado mountain), the Sugar Loaf and the old town (downtown) will be subjects of a future folder. You may take a look at the folder 'Rocinha Favela' (with pictures of this same trip) related to a guided tour inside the Favela Rocinha. For this short trip I had my Olympus Stylus 1, which allows good quality pictures and long zoom range with minimal weight.
