Paris 16ème Arrond; two distinct spots: Arc du Triomphe and Musée Marmottan (2020)

In this gallery, there are two distinct subjects but with a common point; both are located in the same 16th Arrondissement of Paris: the Marmottan Museum and the Arc du Triomphe. The name of the museum is related to the family Marmottan which gave to the École de Beaux Arts de Paris the beautiful house, the decorative art objects and, moreover, a large Claude Monet’s painting collection (and several paintings of other artists). It is the museum having the largest number of Monet’s paintings which belonged to his last direct descendent, Michel Monet. He generously gave them to the museum. To be noticed the presence of the emblematic painting “Impression: Soleil Levant” (Impression: Rising Sun) which is on the origin of the word “Impressionism”, initially employed with ironic sense by the classical painters of the 19th Century.
Contrarily to the peaceful paintings, the second subject is the Arc du Triomphe, homage to war heroes. The construction started in 1806 by Napoleon Bonaparte and it was finished in 1836. This attraction (as the Marmottan Museum) can be visited without much difficulty (relatively small lines). The superior terrace proposes beautiful views of, for instance, the Avenue de Champs Elysées, the Sacré Coeur and the Eiffel Tower. A rainy and foggy day produced photos with a particular character.
