Há 20 anos, as Torres Gêmeas do World Trade Center (WTC) em Nova York (NYC) foram atacadas por terroristas e destruídas. Me veio à lembrança que visitei NYC em várias ocasiões (também por ter morado nos EUA) e resolvi "mergulhar" nos meus slides para resgatar fotos feitas na época. Como datas mais próximas, estive em NYC em 1998 e 2001. Na primeira viagem visitei o WTC e, do seu deque aberto à visitação, fiz fotos de NYC. Na segunda ocasião, em 2001, fui ao Empire State Building, situado na região central da cidade e de onde, novamente, registrei algumas imagens. O WTC, projetado por Minoru Yamasaki, é um complexo de sete edifícios na região de Lower Manhattan. Iniciou suas operações em 4 de abril de 1974 até os ataques de 11/9/2001. O Empire State Building é um Art Deco arranha-céu em Midtown Manhattan. Construido entre 1930 e 1931, foi o mais alto edifício do mundo até a construção do WTC em 1970. As fotos "aéreas" (feitas a partir dos seus deques superiores) propiciam vistas que, pelos seus ângulos particulares, mostram facetas da cidade que dificilmente são observadas a partir das ruas. É impressionante perceber que edifícios de, digamos 70 andares, parecem pequenos a partir dos deques do Empire State e WTC. Essa passagem por NYC em 2001 foi realizada em 5 de agosto, um mês antes desse terrível atentado. Usei uma Canon EOS e as lentes Canon 24-85mm e 75-300mm; os slides foram macrofotografados com a Olympus E-M1 II e a lente Olympus 30mm/3.5.

Twenty years ago the Twin Towers of the WTC collapsed by terrorist attacks. I visited NYC several times (I also lived in the USA for some time) and I "dived" in my film slides in order to find some images taken at the time.The closest dates were 1998, when I visited the WTC; and 2001 when I visited the Empire State Building. The original World Trade Center, designed by Minoru Yamasaki, was a large complex of seven buildings in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan. It opened on April 4, 1973, and was destroyed in 2001 on September 11th by the attacks. The Empire State Building is a Art Deco skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan. Built in 1930 and 1931, it stood as the world's tallest building until the construction of the WTC in 1970. The "aerial" photos (taken from their top decks) produce views that can hardly be perceived from the streets. It is amazing that buildings with, let us say, 70 floors, seem to be ..... "short", when pictured from the WTC and Empire State visitor decks. The 2001 stay in NYC took place on August 5th, around one month before these horrible events. The pictures were taken with a Canon EOS and the lenses Canon 24-85mm and 75-300mm; the slides were macro-photographed with an Olympus E-M1 II and an Olympus 30mm/3.5 lens.
