Manaus, Capital of Amazonas State and Surroundings (2002)

In 2002 we visited Manaus, capital of the Amazonas state, in the heart of the Amazon Forest. Manaus is the biggest town in this very large territory with about 1.6 million inhabitants. We took a 4.5 hours flight from São Paulo to get there.
Between 1890 and 1910 Manaus had its most prosperous period, since car tires were needed and rubber could be easily extracted from the rubber tree ('seringueira' in portuguese), abundant in the forest. Being rich, a fabulous theather - as well as several other buildings - were constructed in Manuas, with many elements imported from Europe and where worldwide famous artists performed. Indeed, it is quite similar to several european teathers. In about 1910 Asian countries started producing rubber and Manaus started its decline.
In this folder we start with some photos from the Manaus harbor; then we get inside the forest in a boat tour. We visit some houses and locations in the forest and finally we go back to Manaus. Some pictures of above mentioned teather are shown.
In that trip I used my Nikon F100 and mainly the zoom Nikkor 28-200mm, quite useful on situations requiring a wide angle and a tele lens. I used Fuji color films, scanned with a Nikon Coolscan V (LS-50). It was a long and tedious work, scheduled longtime and finally done.
