Kyoto, Japan; the Town with 2000 Shrines - but I visited only three (2023)

Em maio de 2023 participei de uma conferência na minha área profissional (Engenharia Elétrica) em Quioto, Japão (certamente a última; estou aposentado). Essa viagem me deu a oportunidade de visitar Quioto e Tóquio mais uma vez. Gosto muito do país, que, me parece, evoluiu consideravelmente desde a minha viagem precedente (2017). Quioto foi a capital do Japão durante 1100 anos, até que Tóquio passou a ocupar essa posição em 1868. Bela cidade de 1.4 milhões de habitantes. É um importante centro cultural e religioso, sendo conhecida como a cidade de 2000 shrines (templos-capelas). Durante o momento da conferência tive pouco tempo para passear na cidade, porém visitei 3 templos; o primeiro (o maior) é o Higashi-Honganji e dois outros (bem menores), próximos do meu hotel e chamados Sugawara-in Tenmangu-jinja e Go-ô. Passeie pelo jardim do Imperial Palace, também próximo ao meu hotel. Enfim, ficou a vontade de voltar à Quioto (e ao Japão) para visitar a cidade e suas atrações.

In May 2023 I attended a conference in my professional area (Electrical Engineering) held at Kyoto (certainly the last one; I am retired now). This trip gave me the opportunity to visit, once more, Japan. I like this country very much which - it seems to me - is under constant evolution. Kyoto was the capital of Japan for about 1100 years when Tokyo took its position in 1868. It is a beautiful city with about 1.4 million inhabitants. It is an important cultural and religious center in Japan. It is said that Kyoto has "2000 shrines". I was quite busy at the conference but I had enough time to visit three temples: Higashi-Honganji (the largest) and two others, Sugawara-in Tenmangu-jinja and Go-ô (much smaller). I could also walk on the Imperial Palace Garden, in front of my hotel. Finally, I hope that I will have the opportunity to go to Kyoto (and Japan) to visit its attractions.
