O bairro José Mendes é muito próximo do centro da cidade de Florianópolis. Fica na ilha, em frente ao continente. Era o caminho normalmente utilizado para o sul da ilha. Em 2002, foi inaugurado o túnel Antonieta de Barros, diminuindo consideravelmente o trajeto, tanto em tempo como em distância. O bairro José Mendes, antes muito trafegado e frequentado, se tornou uma área esquecida e com baixo movimento. Frequentemente, passeio de carro nesta área e percebo seu relativo abandono. Eu conhecia uma família que morava no local nos anos 1980s e resolvi dar uma volta e fotografar a região. É curioso que uma região tão próxima do centro - e portanto um fácil acesso à cidade - tenha sido esquecida tão rapidamente. Ademais, o bairro possui belas vistas para o mar. Para as fotografias utilizei uma Sony A900 e as lentes Minolta 24/2.8, 35-70/4, 35-105/3.5-4.5 e 75-300/4.5-5.6.

José Mendes is a neighborhood close to Florianópolis downtown. It is located in the island, in front of the continent. It was the normal way for driving to the south of the island. In 2002, the tunnel Antonieta de Barros was inaugurated, which strongly reduced the trajet in terms of distance and timing. The neighborhood José Mendes, before very frequented and vivid became a forgotten area and few people walk or drive through. Sometimes, instead of taking the tunnel, I drove through José Mendes and noticed the relative abandon. I knew a family which lived in José Mendes in the late 1980s and I decided to take pictures there. It is curious that such an area, so close to downtown - and with easy access to the town - has been forgotten in such a sharp way. By the way, the scenery, with views to the sea, is quite beautiful. For the pictures I used an old Sony A900 and the Minolta lenses 24/2.8, 35-70/4, 35-105/3.5-4.5 and 75-300/4.5-5.6.
