From 1994 I 'discovered' the path linking Canto dos Araçás to the village Costa da Lagoa. It is located in the Santa Catarina Island, place of Florianópolis (capital of Santa Catarina state). In that time I was living close to Canto dos Araçás and, several times, as photo activity and/or exercise, I walked along this path (7.4 km long). It is an old trail and the only possibility to reach Costa da Lagoa, a village by the lac Lagoa da Conceição (see maps). One can go to Costa by boat too, but no cars or buses are able to do so. Therefore, it is particular place. People living there use the public boats to reach the town or they work directly in Costa da Lagoa. In the middle of the way, there is an even smaller village, called Vila Verde (Green Village) where one can stop and have a drink at the Bar do Bilé. Bilé was the owner; he passed away few years ago, but his family is still holding the bar. Costa da Lagoa is, nowadays, a touristic village and there are many restaurants serving mainly sea food. Besides, many people live there while working in town. Then, everytime I go there, I walk through the path, have lunch with caipirinha drinks and go back by boat.

At some point, in those years, I felt that photographing the place could be an interesting subject. Then, I chose some pictures and an exhibition was held in March 1995.

The photos here presented come from my prints, made at my home lab. I scanned them with the Canon Scan 9000F Mk II, at 400 dpi.
