Hystorical cities of Minas Gerais: Congonhas, Tiradentes and São João del Rey (2011)

The state of Minas Gerais has several hystorical cities. In the 17th and 18th centuries mineral stones were found in this area, when Brazil was still a portuguese colony. Then, several important towns were established in that region. The most known and important was Ouro Preto (subject of another folder). Tiradentes, São João del Rey and Congonhas have several houses, buildings and churchs in a typical portuguese colonial style. In Congonhas, the church 'Basílica Bom Jesus dos Matosinhos' with its twelve prophet statues and the chapels describing the Jesus Christ 'Via Crucis' is among the most known Art Barroc monuments in the world. The statues were made with soap stone by 'Aleijadinho' a famous artist of the 18th Century. We, some of F8 Photo Group members, performed this trip. By car we started in Florianópolis and we arrived in Ouro Preto as final destination (around 1500 km distance). We crossed the hystorical cities of this folder. I was with a analog camera and a Canon G12. The pictures here shown were taken with the Canon G12.
