Carl,

I have a question about 917 Brakes. I recently acquired a customer 914/6 racecar that is said to have 917 brakes. Upon review, I found a photo on your page here with multiple versions of brakes. We appear to have the ATE Late models.

Do you have any more information on the late model ATE Calipers? I would love to pick your brain and send you some photos.

PS: Awesome photos and incredible build!

Thanks!

Ben

Thanks for the look into building a beautiful old gal back to life. The talents of your crew are without parallel. As a track rat around Watkins Glen and Bridgehampton back in 67-71 I'd have to say my favorite car was the 917. I especially thought the sound of them was magnificent - unique in tone of a flat engine with shear brute horsepower. It was scary to feel them go by when you could be so up close to the circuit's edge. F1 performance in a sports racer - man, I only wish I had gotton to to witness Mark Donahue in a 917/30 - alas I was in college then.

Anyone may accurately make scale drawings to any scale by using a proportional divider.
I believe Variscaler is a superb brass example. Can anyone tell me how to buy one?
Mike Rees 18-Apr-2006 01:39

Hello Carl,
What would the youngsters do without us old guys to show them how it's done?
Still keeping them running for 48 years.

Very nice work Carl. thanks for giving me the link. Have you heard about the new race track in Utah scheduled to open in a month or two? Check out www.millermotorsportspark.com for more info on this. It is 2 2.2 mile tracks or one 4.5 mile road track.

Wonderful!

If only I had found these pages last year - I'm 900 hours into a 1:8 scratch-built model 917K and I'm now going to have to make another one to put right all the little details! A fantastic reference source - thank you.

I am looking for a photo of a 917 motor suitable to use on my desktop. I have come across one of a motor on a stand which would have been great, but it was to small. Can someone help please!

When is it my turn to drive the 917. Looks good!!!!
Dave Bouzaglou 27-Apr-2004 02:11
OH MAH GAWD!! your "new" 917 is sooooo beautiful... and complicated!!! I can see that you and the dedicated (and highly skilled) crew will have a bizzilion hours in the car. I can't wait for its west coast track unveiling. I've sat in the Steve McQueen car (when AIR did the first restoration) and the Ex Gallogy Sebring 917- the heart just revs up that much more each time. Fantastic Carl- Enjoy!!

Hello Carl:

I met you at Kent's house when you were working on his 908. I had the orange 914 (I have since added a Carrera 3.2 to my "stable"). Thank you for being so generous with your time and talking to me about Kent's car and the Spyder you were working on. You must have recognized the glazed look in my eyes while I was staring at Porsche racing history and, so, you took pitty on me.

Your 917 looks absolutely fabulous. You are truly a keeper of the flame when it comes to preserving Porsche's glorious racing past. Keep up the good work. If I see you at Kent's again, I will be sure to stop by and gawk.

Mike
