I remember first hearing 917s coming off the old back straight at Road Atlanta, thinking they sounded like 747s as the turbos popped their relief valves! There will never be another race car like them.

hey everyone

just a message to say the 917 looks amazing. i'm a 17 year old living in Glasgow, Scotland. Ever since i was about 10 and my dad first put on that classic Steve McQueen film Le Mans, i've totally fallen in love with the 917's. And being involved in restoration myself (of the double-deck bus kind) i love seeing things come together.

I've been watching Gunnarracing's site for some time. I switched over to see the 917 completed. I was surprised to see Kent Morgan helping out. Kent bought my 906 longer ago than I like to remember. It was good to see him still active in old Porsche race cars.

As a kid who found sports cars and sports car racing about the time the 917 came to dominance in the racing world, I have always had a special place in my heart for these Amazing cars. It would be a dream-come-true to see this Fantastic Machine in action! Will the car ever be run in Southern California? And if so - When?

You & Gunnar Racing have put together an outstanding photo essay documenting the building of a truly outstanding car, thank you. I understand once completed it'll be attending the Porsche Rennsport Reunion II happening in Daytona; true? If so, I look forward to seeing it on the high-banking in April as I've ordered my tickets 2 weeks ago... I can't wait!

Incredible! Thank you very much for sharing all this with us fans. I am an auto engineer in Detroit and it's facinating to see how the details of these wonderful cars were built. There's nothing else I've ever seen that has this detail.

BTW: I am a fan of this era and have been looking for anything similar to this on a Ferrari 512S or M. By comparison, it wasn't nearly as good a car but it is interesting to compare and contrast the design philosophies. Do you know of any site that has anything even close to what you have produced dealing with the 512S&M?
