911 and 914-6 Heater Control - NOS

Actually, this is the air/heater control assembly for the 911 and the p/n is 901.613.111.00 https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/142486691. At first glance, it appears to be the same part as used by the 914-6, but that p/n is different for the mid-engine 914.613.111.00. Another difference could also be the length of the control cables the levers actuate with the 914 unit possibly using a bit longer cables. I can confirm this once I have a chance to pull from storage the origianl control assembly from my factory six.

A quick visual revealed the colored plastic lever caps appear to be slightly different as their finish is not so shiny as the ones that came installed in my factory 1970 914-6. I also realize plastic surfaces do get a polished-shiny look over time as those parts are handled. After a bit of cleaning to remove the white powdery substance https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/142486694 from the lever caps, the plastic used on my NOS levers all feel and look more like an upgraded rubber material and not so plastic. I will try and upload more detailed photos later this week.

Were the 911 lever-caps slightly improved over the ones used in the 914-6? Could the factory maybe have sourced those from a different supplier for the 911? I cannot imagine going through that much trouble to improve the "look & feel" of a simple dash plastic part just because it was to be installed in a 911. I suppose we'll never really know...
