The IBM 'Personal' Correcting Selectric...

A very compact 11-inch wide-machine with a single 12-Pitch writing scale. The IBM 'Personal' typewriter was the last and very successful Selectric model introduced by IBM in 1982(?). The machines sold out within a few short months. The idea behind the sized-down Correcting Selectric was for IBM to be able to use the vast number of left-over production parts in inventories since sales of the larger and wider machines was noticeably dwindling down with lack-luster sales. With the With the introduction and quick proliferation of 'Personal Computers' in the early 80's, along with competing dot-matrix and laser printers, the typewriter industry was fast imploding. Decades later, no one would have ever guessed 'typewriters', particularly the very old non-electric 'mechanical models would slowly again make a come-back. Not only among avid typewriter collectors, but also with the younger college crowd. So the story continues...
