Installation - GT Fuel Gauge

Bernie and I discussed that this https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/159849765 is NOT the correct 911 exhaust tip (1974?). It appears that this exhaust tip was made out of Aluminum (not magnetic) and the rolled-tip and indentations in the body of the exhaust tip were not present on the part used by the Porsche factory to mount the VDO GT fuel gauge in 1970.

We will need to search for an early exhaust tip off a 911.

Hello John! Hope you’re doing well.

I need your help with something. We need to figure out how the GT fuel gauge, using a ‘911 Exhaust Tip’ was attached to the dash of the 914. I’m only assuming that’s what the Porsche factory used back in the day (1970) to slip the VDO GT gauge into. Your GThttp://www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/22304079 appears to have the same 911 exhaust tip as the Miles Collier GThttp://www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/22285821 and I was wondering if you ever looked behind the carpeting material around your gauge to see behind it.

Can you please let me know if by chance you did see how the fuel gauge assembly was secured to your dash? Did the exhaust tip had two or three tabs welded at the angle end and riveted in place? We’re getting much closer to this area in my car and this is one unknown detail I don’t have.
