70' Porsche 914-6, sn 914.043.2312 - 2004/Nov eBay Sold $21,000

...(November 16, 2004) Sold on eBay for $21,000 https://pbase.com/image/37356909

This is how the owner described his 914-6...

"...This beautiful orange Porsche 914-6 was delivered to its original owner on November 20, 1970, but by 2000 it had made its way to Virginia, where it has remained ever since. The service records on the car date back to the first service/warranty work on the car in 1970.

This immaculate Porsche was owned, driven and subsequently stored by a collector at approximately 50,000 thousand miles. It is a very nice example of a limited production well maintained and documented Porsche. The records are organized chronologically in a binder and the original Porsche owners manual is included with the car.

The car comes with two engines. The original 2.0 factory engine with 53K miles is in perfect working order and on a pallet to retain its value. It is exceptionally clean and can be seen in the below photos. The second engine is a 2.2E engine with 55K miles and is also in perfect working order. This engine is presently in the car providing for a very lively driving experience. As you might expect it also is exceptionally clean and can be seen in the below photos.

There were only about 2,300 914-6s made and distributed worldwide and a significantly smaller number making it to the United States. These cars are becoming the next Porsche Speedster in terms of collector interests, thus it is becoming most difficult to find strong running, rust free, clean originals. While beautiful 914-4 conversions are readily available, their dollar value will always go down and are simply not investments. This car is not only exceptionally clean but more importantly it is original. This car is a blast to drive and WILL retain or appreciate in value through the years. How do you say, smart purchase?

OPTIONS ON THIS PORSCHE; Optional Factory Paint - Porsche Orange BODY/TRIM/TOP - The body is finished in one of Porsche's best colors, Orange. The paint is high gloss with no peeling, fading, or damage, and is in great condition. The car's original paint has been exceptionally well maintained. The left fender and quarter panel have been repainted as a result of ice storm damage (chips/scratches) and is undetectable to the eye. A beautiful job was done and it matches the rest of the car perfectly. All of the body panels, including doors, hood and trunk, are very straight, line up well, and have no signs of damage or previous repair.

The exterior of the Porsche is free from noticeable door dings, dents or damage. It is rare that you see a 914-6 with few or no door dings, but this is the case with this car. Any minor flaws in the body/paint are barely noticeable and in no way detract from the overall appearance of the Porsche. This car is really striking and receives compliments wherever I go. As expected with an automobile of this caliber, the car is almost totally free from rust, pitting or major damage to the body.

I can only find one very small rust spot under the rubber water seal on the drivers side door. This is very minor and is not visible without extreme scrutiny. It shows no signs of rust on the typical rust prone areas of the Porsche, as a result of its pampered life in storage. An inspection of the rocker panels, rear lower fenders, under hood area, spare tire well, and undercarriage reveals a dry, clean and rust free car.

The door locks operate properly as well as the engine compartment lid releases mechanism as per factory specifications. All of the exterior trim is in beautiful condition. The front and rear bumpers have no "bumper rash" or damage. All of the plastic trim and other exterior moldings are free from damage and in excellent condition. The side windows are free from cracks and damage and operate well. The front windshield is free from any cracks, stars or damage and the trim surrounding it is in excellent condition. The Porsche has the most striking highly polished Fuchs alloy wheels that are in outstanding condition. All wheel lugnuts were recently replaced with new ones for security and looks.

INTERIOR - The interior is simply beautiful and is in outstanding condition. It was completely replaced with new Porsche factory material that perfectly matches the original interior. We are talking thousands of dollars invested to get the perfect match! Without saying, there are no tears, rips or damage of any kind to the interior. It is better than when it came off the show room floor. As the photos show, the entire interior is in absolutely excellent condition. The dash is finished in black, as are the new door panels and center console. There are no cracks or signs of wear on the dash, center console or instruments, switches or steering wheel. The side door panels are excellent and free from damage.

The retracting seat belts are original, free of any fraying or damage, as are the receiving parts of the seat belt units. The 4 point harness shown does not convey with this vehicle. The doorsills and door jambs are clean and free from dirt and grease. The lights, gauges, and entire electrical system are 100% functional with the exception of the fog-lights. I believe that the switch is defective. The trunk also contains the original carpet that is in excellent condition. The trunk area is completely clean and contains the spare tire, tools and jack. The trunk is totally free from any rust, signs of leakage, or damage.

ENGINE & MECHANICAL CONDITION - The Porsche has received regular inspections and repairs have been made to the vehicle as recommended by a certified factory trained Porsche mechanic. The Porsche is very strong mechanically including major components such as engine and transmission, rear end, brakes and suspension. As we have said, it has been exceptionally well maintained, garaged kept, and pampered. When it comes to drivability, this particular Porsche is absolutely superb and it drives as if it is only a few years old! The car is great fun to drive and exhibits absolutely no problems. The car starts immediately when cold and hot, and runs cool, even in warm temperatures. The battery has been replaced within the past six months, and the Porsche passes Virginia's strict inspection standards. Both engines are very strong and do not exhibit any known problems. These Porsche engines idle smoothly at just below 1000 rpm, and do not hesitate or have any known unusual issues. As expected, the increased horsepower in the 2.2E engine makes the driving more pleasureable to those individuals with a need for speed.

The transmission functions as well as expected for vintage Porsche. Remember that this car does not incorporate 2004 technology! There is no noise in the driveline and the clutch engages properly, without slippage, chattering or fuss. The brakes work great and stop the car straight and sure. The emergency brake functions well however lacks a return spring. The engine and engine bay is almost spotless - free from oil, dirt and grease. I have owned a number of Porsches over the years and say can with confidence that this is an excellent driving car that will provide years of future enjoyment.

ADDITONAL INFORMATION / COMMENTS - The reserve price on this car is $21,000.00. This car must go due to my car collection expanding beyond my wife's blessing. It is currently located in Alexandria, Virginia, under custom cover in my garage and is calling your name! Vehicle Condition: Outstanding.
