70' Porsche 914-6, sn 914.043.1890 - 2009/Jan Asking $20,100

1970 Porsche 914-6 - No Sales at $20,100

Car has been in the California Bay Area its whole life. I am the fourth owner. The car does have matching original VIN and engine numbers. The odometer was stuck on 73,143 miles when I drove the car, so I can't say for sure what the actual miles are.

First owner brought it over from Germany (1970 – 1975?)

Second owner was president of a Bay Area 914-6 club (1975 – 1987?)

Third owner drove the car for three years then garaged it for 16 years (1987 – 2006)

I’ve had the car for two years.

Modifications - Second owner did a few things to the car: 1. Upgraded the carburetors jets for increased performance (nice mod) - 2. Changed to an after-market front spoiler (looks good) - 3. Added after-market stabilizers to rear suspension (bolt on) - 4. Repainted part (or all?) of the car due to some rust issues on the drain gutters around the front hood. Original color “Irish green” was maintained.

Third owner changed to an aftermarket steering wheel (very nice) - I did nothing to the car except get it running after sitting 16 years

Body/Exterior - Overall good to very good. One dent on front right fender (no break in paint). One noticable ding on rear trunk caused by shutting trunk onto object sitting too tall in trunk. Otherwise no significant body or paint issues. Normal amount of small paint chips and small dings. Battery tray pan is rusted out, but tray frame still works. Definitely would need replacement though. Front and rear bumpers are original and in very good condition. Exterior vinyl is in very good condition. Aluminum trim is in good condition. Window glass is in very good condition. All four wheels are original 14-inch and in very good condition. All valences are in excellent condition. Headlight buckets are original (white plastic). Roof is in good condition and roof latches are in good working order.

Interior - Overall good condition. Original upholstery. Tears on either side of driver’s seat. One tear on cushion of passenger seat. Otherwise interior is in very good condition. Dash pieces are in very good condition. Rear mirror fell off while I cleaning windshield. Mirror needs to be replaced anyway (spotting inside mirror).

Front/Rear trunks - Overall in very good condition. No significant rust anywhere under carpets. Spare wheel is same as the other four, original and in very good condition. Rear carpet and underlaying pad are original and in very good condition. New 4-point hold-downs in rear trunk for stowing roof.

Tires - New condition.

Electrical - Everything works except turn signal switch sometimes doesn’t hold its position or automatically turn off. Also radio doesn’t work very well. May just need to extend antenna.

Mechanical - Engine compression very good. When I was driving the car last year I was very impressed with performance. Problem now is the engine seals leak oil so I quit driving it for the last year. A mechanic estimated about $4,000 to fix the leak and do a few other things to the engine. Oil leak is "near flywheel" area. Handling is very good. Brakes work fine. Clutch was slipping a little in 3rd thru 5th gears under load. New clutch included in $4K estimate.
