The Porsche 914 market has been a very interesting lately. These wonderful handling cars have really been forgotten by much of the collector car world until the last 12 months. Suddenly, more and more enthusiasts are searching out for that “right” 914. Of course, the 914-6 values have climbed the most. These 6 cylinder variants were not produced for very long and there are fewer examples that have survived. For those of you who are purists, you might want to not read any further. However, you have to remember that this project started at a different time under different circumstances.

In 1990, a local Southern California Porsche enthusiast purchased this car from another local enthusiast. At the time he purchased it, it was pretty much a stock 914-6 with original numbers matching engine and tranny (we still have both number matching cases…see photos). However, sometime in the 80’s, the car was in an accident and when it was repaired, they had two use two chassis from other 914s to repair this car. As a result, the CA DMV had to attach a new VIN plate to the chassis (see photos). We still have a piece of the original VIN tag (see photo). At this point, the new owner decided to use the car as not only a fun weekend toy but also as something to take out to the track once in a while. As he was enjoying the car, it was constantly undergoing improvements and enhancements.

It took over a decade to complete its final look. Unfortunately, by time he completed the car (about 7-years ago) he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and was too sick to enjoy it. So, shortly before he passed away, he sold the car to the current owner (about 3-years ago). The current owner is a local vintage-racing enthusiast who thought this would be the perfect car to do some fun vintage road rallies. So, he began to modify the car to make it the perfect blend of weekend hot rod and something you could take to the track for a driving event.

The build of this 914-6 is insane and over $125,000 was invested. Highlights include the following: 3.6L 964 Twin Plug Engine (estimated 300hp at crank) ~50mm PMO/Weber Carbs ~ Electromotive twin-plug crank-fire ignition ~ Aase RSR valve springs with titanium retainers ~ WEB Euro-spec grind camshafts ~ Patrick Motorsports Jet-Hot coated racing headers with Patrick Sport muffler ~ 901-side shift transmission with stock ratios (just rebuilt by Bill Brewster with factory 904 main shaft) (1st is blocked off to preserve transmission) ~ Billet aluminum intermediate plate ~ 225mm Patrick Motorsports aluminum flywheel and lightweight racing clutch ~ Quaiffe limited slip differential and billet side plates ~ Solid transmission mounts ~ B&B 930 front-mounted engine oil cooler with thermostat ~ 911 SC front suspension with chromoly sub frame and aluminum cross brace ~ Porsche (big red) twin turbo brakes and rotors all the way around ~ Sport valved RSR Bilstein struts and shocks ~ 23mm gun-drilled front torsion bars ~ 930 turbo tie-rods ~ Charley front sway bar ~ Porsche factory rear sway bar ~ Chromoly rear sub frame and shock tower brace ~ Eibach 300lb rear spring coilovers ~ Adjustable monoball upper strut mounts & Poly-graphite suspension bushings ~ 19mm master cylinder ~ 17x8 and 17x9.5 Kinesis 3piece wheels ~ 914-6 GT chassis stiffening kit ~ Porsche factory 914-6 GT precision butt-welded flares ~ Carbon fiber composite front hood, rear hood, and bumpers ~ Composite GT sport seats ~ SPA fire suppression system ~ Factory fuel tank with Patrick Motorsports/Fuel Safe fuel cell ~ Martin Baker vintage GT exterior gas cap ~ Paint job by Jim East

The condition of this car is excellent. It looks very fresh. The paint is in great condition with hardly any signs of use. There is a small crack on the paint where the rear left flare meets the top of the body…that’s about it. The interior is equally nice with no cracks or tears.

When it comes to driving, this 914 is amazing. It has huge power, lots of torque, and very precise handling. It just begs to be pushed. California registration is paid through January 2014.

This Porsche comes with an original factory tool kit, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, original numbers matching engine and transmission case, original factory advertising material, car cover, and stinger exhaust pipes.
