eBay Seller's Description: Shortly after the 1966 Le Mans 24 Hours, a privateer, Rico Steinemann bought the ex-Siffert/Davis factory long-tail, Porsche 906-153, which was its class winner and had finished 4th overall. The long-tail was fast on the straight, but much unstable for the Monza race track; therefore, Steinemann made a short-tail for the car, but with the long-tail nose as he had planned to enter the Monza trial. After his testing sessions at Monza, Steinemann blew up his fuel-injected engine. He then called Ferdinand Piëch, Porsche's chief engineer who was responsible for the development of the Porsche 906s or Carrera 6s, for help. Based on Porsche factory experiences at both Daytona and Monza, Piëch authorized manufacture of a new Porsche 906 Carrera, with chassis 906-162 along with all refinements to accommodate this World Record Run at the Monza Race Track for Steinemann. This factory new 906-162 was painted in red and white as Switzerland's racing colors. British Petroleum (BP) provided engine oil and Firestone supplied tires.
