July/2014 ~ The last set sold, as a pictorial reference, I will leave this page up.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~‘Last call’, please read… The reproduction of the 914-6 GT front and rear trunk lids started two years ago and it is time to call it quits. I recently sold two sets and there will only be two more sets made available for those who wish to upgrade their 914 cars to the more authentic factory original 914-6 GT look. Because I do need to move on with my own 914-6 GT project, I will soon be picking up my factory OEM 914-6 GT trunks lids from the fabrication shop where they have been used as the ‘barometer’ model for the reproductions over the last two years. In order to insure the authentic reproduction ‘look n ‘feel’ of my parts, my OEM trunk lids had to be present to achieve my goal. Would you want to buy the next set of trunk lids made just from reference photographs and without someone that’s discriminating to oversee the outcome of the reproduction project? I’ll answer that question; based on my experience, you really don’t.
It is my opinion… Aside from the steel fender flares used by the factory 914-6 GT race cars, the other more significant identifying feature of these cars are simply the 914-6 GT fiberglass balsawood reinforced front and rear trunk lids. Make no mistake; it is not the large 100 liter fuel tank, it is not the Scheel bucket seats, not the 908 front calipers or the REPA shoulder belts, without question, they are the 914-6 GT trunk lids.
The cost of factory OEM 914-6 GT Trunk Lids today... Considering an OEM 914-6 GT front trunk lid alone normally sells north of $6,000, and the rear at no less than $3,500 (assuming you find them), for much less than the cost of an OEM GT rear trunk lid you can buy my complete set today. If you believe $3,000 is really expensive, try making a set.
Final thoughts… I realize these 914-6 GT trunk lids are not for everyone, they’re not for every GT project, but they are certainly available now for those who can appreciate them and would like to bring their GT cars to the next level. BTW, if you happen to have an OEM 914-6 GT trunk lid, please don't drill the lid to install those large and heavy driving lamps https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/52313716, use these reproductions trunk lids instead. You could also have an extra set, and by painting them flat-black you can completly change the look of your car https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/24232401Thank you for looking!PS: Just in case. Don't ever store these deck lids resting on their windshield end-points https://pbase.com/image/154074656 as those will wear and get rounded off at the ends. Always rest the lids on their sides, the way I show the lids in my photos is for illustration purposes only and not the way I recommend storing them.
