911R / 914-6 GT Magnesium Tall Intake Manifolds (Wankum) 46/42mm

This is a rare pair of tall 911R Magnesium Intake manifolds, they actually have racing history! The lower ports were opened up to 42mm to fit the larger intake ports of a 911 RSR race motor, certainly much larger than the original 911R factory specs at 38mm. The intakes are usually spotted under a pair of large 46mm WEBER racing carburetors. I sourced the parts a couple of years ago from a nice gentleman (IMSA Racer) who raced several early 911's, including a 73' RSR. Decades ago, when the lower intake ports of these Mag manifolds were opened-up, they developed some hairline cracks in the funnel area https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/156021105 which were expertly repaired and reinforced. I could easily make the welded areas disappear https://pbase.com/9146gt/image/156021107 by re-contouring, re-shaping, re-texturing and improving their cosmetic presence, but I felt it would take away from their ‘cool racing patina’. Instead, I decided to leave well-enough alone as they were originally raced. Incidentally, the intakes were also sprayed-painted a dark Magnesium color for preservation purposes, but the paint coat can be easily removed if desired and the DOW finish reapplied. Personally, I'm leaving them alone and probably use them as they are.
