Transmission, Rearend Ratio and Tire Size vs. Force Multiplication
These tables display the relationship between torque at the flywheel and how much force the tires apply to the ground to push the car forward. It can be seen that the worst force multiplication available in a Volvo automatic transmission occurs in a turbo car with the stock rear end and tire size. It can also be seen that aspect ratio is significant in how much force gets to the ground. Other benefits of reducing the aspect ratio are lower center of gravity of the vehicle and providing a more favorable moment arm for the braking system. I’m going to get 50 aspect ratio tires in the spring and at that time I will report what actually happens when you go down on aspect ratio.
