Earl, you can see the perimeter fence that was put up in 1965-66 if you Google Earth the site. It still exist except around the barracks area, where it was over built. I guess three strands of barb wire is useful to keep the water buffaloes off the run way. 56th Supply buildings & open air stores are on both sides of that fence. The berm and wire that Red Horse put up in 1969 is gone. If it is AO contamination that is your claim, they started spraying tactical herbicides in 1967-68, according to some. Officially, they started in April 1969 on the new perimeter. (Big grain of salt.) Google maps has a distance measuring tool. Cannot help you on the fragging, was gone by then.

Hello, my name is Earl S Wright. I was stationed in NKP 1971-1972 in 56th Supply Squadron working the flight line and POL fuels. I was actually in the NCO club when that fragging incident occurred. May I use this information to verify and assist in documenting my claim. Also, if anyone has information on the distance the 56th Supply hootch and bulk storage is from the perimeter, would be a great help. I am so glad I stumbled upon this site, it definitely brought back some memories. Thank you. My email address is jaaywright@gmail.com.

I left NKP June 30, 1970. I worked in Operations Wing HQs and the building circled in Red was 56 Combat Support Group Headquarters (Base Commander, Legal, etc.) Wing was across the parking lot from TUOC (on the leftside of TUOC in the photo).

The building circled in red with TUOC crossed out, is the Base Communications Center (1987th Comm Sq.) Just above it was the best Squadron Hootch Bar in all creation. I was there as a comm puke from '71 to '72

Found the site recently and it's great for memories, most of which were good at NKP. I was with the weather squadron and worked mostly in TUOC and TFA, except for our missions we still shouldn't discuss. Several posts refer to the "fragging" incident in '71. One of the few things I do talk about is how potato soup saved my life. I am looking at the photo that shows the Thai restaurant just inside the base perimeter gate. I was short by only a few days, and like with everything else, was coming back to base for the "last time", and figured I would have the very tasty potato soup at that restaurant "for the last time". Of course, we were on our way to the NCO club, but stopped for the soup (and they had great (unbelievably) wienerschnitzel... remember?). As we were in the middle of eating, the club blew up... we figured we would probably have just been going through the entrance, had we not stopped for the potato soup. The sirens started to wail, the call for blood donation... ah yes, what memories. Thanks for the web site.
