Wednesday the weather was finally creeping back up into the 70's and we had the day set aside for Sanibel Island. We arrived at the island at 8 am and made a stop at the SCCF, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation's Nature Center right across the road from the famed Ding Darling National Wildlife Preserve. A brisk 4-mile walk at the latter left us too exhausted to bother with the Wildlife Drive, which was a veritable traffic jam by early afternoon anyway. We headed over to Captiva Island and spent an hour at their beautiful white sand beach where I finally found my life breeding plumaged Ruddy Turnstone, but foolishly spooked him before I got a shot off. We then drove all the way to the other end of the island chain and spent a lovely afternoon at the Sanibel Lighthouse Beach! Definitely a place to visit for shelling!
