While this is the first recorded Bald Eagle nesting site in Onondaga County since the hacking projects of the past decades, we haven't yet experienced a successful hatching in the previous two attempts. Here's hoping 2006 brings us some new eaglets! This nest was taken over by the eagles from a heron rookery in Three Rivers WMA's beaver pond. It is @ a half-mile from the roadside, and I have trouble spotting eagles on the nest with my 10x50 binoculars. I was very happy with the results of my 300mm f/4 Tele Macro and it's 1.4x teleconverter! As an illustration, please note the fuzzy white line in the sky through the treetops immediately to the right of the nest. This is actually a skein of migrating snow geese several miles away!
