Anhingas lack the oil that most waterfowl have that coats their feather to remain buoyant. That's because this is a diver who swims underwater to hunt it's quarry. Oil would hinder that ability to dive. Thus, the Anhinga has to resort to solar power to dry it's plumage after a swim!
