This is a snapshot of my original artwork as it hangs in exhibit at the Syracuse Everson Museum from Oct-Nov 2010. Chosen as one of 77 regional winners in the On My Own Time juried art show in April, I created this piece less than 10 days after my own full mastectomy on March 18, 2010. As one diagnosed just a month earlier with invasive breast cancer (it had migrated to my axillary lymph nodes) I created this piece as encouragement to myself and the countless other women in Onondaga County who have this disease, the #2 killer of cancer among women. I also hoped to sell this piece with the FULL purchase price of $100 being donated to the local branch of the American Cancer Society for my team's participation in the annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.
UPDATE OCTOBER 2010
This piece now hangs in the office of my radiational oncologist, Dr. Anna Shapiro, in Syracuse, NY. Dr. Shapiro graciously purchased the piece and in doing so kicked off my fundraising efforts for 2011! Thank You Dr. Shapiro!
